What you can expect from our sessions

I understand how overwhelming it can be going to therapy, and maybe worrying over what you're going to say. Let me assure you, you don't need to arrive knowing exactly what you want to talk about. We might start with something that happened during the week, a feeling that you're struggling with, a relationship, or simply a sense that something doesn't feel right. We can follow wherever the conversation naturally takes you, without any pressure.

My role is to listen carefully and try to understand your experience from your point of view. I might reflect something I've heard, check that I've understood you correctly, or gently draw your attention to something you've just said. There may also be moments of silence, because you have time to think and feel rather than having to keep the conversation going, and that's okay.

The idea is that you're the expert of your own experience. I'm not there to judge you, give you all the answers, or tell you how to live your life. Instead, I aim to offer you a relationship that is accepting, genuine and empathic.

Over time, having that safe space can help you understand yourself more clearly, make sense of your feelings and become more trusting of your own thoughts, feelings, and decisions.

The aim is, that by the time you reach the end of therapy, you will have all the tools needed to become your own therapist.

I offer a free 20 minute phone consultation before booking your first session. This gives us the opportunity to briefly discuss your needs, answer any questions you may have, and help you to decide if what I'm offering feels right for you.
