What is Person-Centred Therapy?

Person-Centred therapy is a talk therapy where the client is recognised as the expert in their own life. It provides a safe, non-judgemental supporting environment in the hope that a trusting, therapeutic relation will build, where you feel able to talk openly about your thoughts, feelings, and experiences.

It is based on the core belief that every individual has an innate, natural drive towards personal growth, self-healing, and fulfilling their full potential.

As the therapist, I will offer three key conditions, the first being unconditional positive regard where i accept and value the client without judgement. The second being congruent (genuine) where I will remain honest, transparent, and real during our sessions together, and the third I will offer an empathic understanding, seeing and feeling the world from your point of view.

Person-Centred is a non-directive approach and works at a pace that is comfortable for the client, which means the client chooses what they want to talk about and directs the speed of their healing. It is not about giving advice or offering solutions as this could take you in a direction that wouldn't be encouraging natural growth.

What I will do as the therapist, is walk beside you on your journey, intervening when appropriate and using counselling skills to help you explore at a deeper level.

I offer a free 20 minute phone consultation before booking your first session. This gives us the opportunity to briefly discuss your needs, answer any questions you may have, and help you to decide if what I'm offering feels right for you.
